Moldovan government warns citizens about online financial frauds

The government today warned citizens about online financial frauds and urged them to be cautious and not get involved in suspect ‘’investment’’ groups or platforms.

"Promises of quick financial gains that seem too good to be true are usually scams. Protect yourself and your loved ones," the authorities warn.

According to the authorities, people are lured into fraud schemes through ‘’investment’’ groups created via messaging apps. Within these groups, a fake ‘’mentor,’’ ‘’coach,’’ ‘’teacher,’’ ‘’consultant,’’ or ‘’crypto expert’’ provides advice on how to quickly earn a lot of money. At the same time, group members are directed to fake ‘’investment’’ platforms that appear genuine. To make the scheme credible, small initial gains are offered. Subsequently, additional fees are requested, and the invested money is not returned.

For people to protect themselves from fraud schemes, authorities recommend that they do not respond to invitations to online groups with promises of quick gains, do not install unknown applications, do not allow remote access to their phones or personal computers and immediately report any suspicious activity to the police.

The authenticity of platforms or financial entities can be verified on the official website of the National Financial Market Commission (CNPF).

People who have fallen victim to such frauds are urged to immediately stop all contact with the supposed fraudsters, not to send money in any form, report the incident to the police and inform family and friends, in order to prevent the spread of the fraud.
