Volunteer firefighting post inaugurated in central Moldova settlement

A Territorial Post of Volunteer Firefighters today was inaugurated in the Scoreni settlement, central Straseni district, which will serve four localities in the districts of Straseni and Ialoveni – Scoreni, Nimoreni, Malcoci and Condrita.

The event was attended by Interior Minister Daniella Misail-Nichitin, the leadership of the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations (IGSU), representatives of the local administration, newly formed volunteers, and international partners involved in the project. Officials emphasized that community’s safety began with trained people and infrastructure adapted to local risks.

Ten volunteer firefighters, trained by IGSU trainers, will be available for interventions in case of fires, accidents or other emergency situations. They will constitute the first line of response until the arrival of professional teams, being trained in firefighting, first aid and rescue operations.

The necessity of the post is confirmed by data from the last three years: approximately 90 interventions recorded in the region, mostly vegetation fires. With the operationalization of the new depot, about seven thousand people will benefit from reduced response times and more efficient interventions.

The post’s building was constructed from scratch with financial support from the European Union, the Solidarity Fund Poland in Moldova and contributions from local authorities. The Scoreni post becomes the 23rd active volunteer firefighting post in the country and joins the 82 existing territorial posts, strengthening  Moldova's capacity to promptly respond to risk situations.

The programme for expanding the network of volunteer firefighting posts aims to reduce intervention times in rural areas and enhance community’s resilience. The initiative is part of national efforts to modernize the emergency management system and adapt to the increased risks of climate change.
