Thousands of students from Moldova convey messages of solidarity to children in Ukraine through campaign, Letter can replace hug

Thousands of students across the Republic of Moldova have taken part in the campaign, Letter can replace hug, launched by the Ministry of Education and Research (MEC), to send messages of solidarity, courage, and hope to children in Ukraine.

The letters written by students were collected and brought to the MEC headquarters and will be delivered to the recipients through the Embassy of Ukraine in the Republic of Moldova. The initiative was designed to offer children affected by the conflict in Ukraine a sign of closeness, moral support, and empathy from their peers in our country.

“Letters for the children of Ukraine are not just words written on paper. They are messages of courage, peace, and solidarity. These letters are meant to show children that we stand by them and that their pain is heard in every corner of the world,” said Paula Rotari, president of Sîngerei District Students’ Council.

The campaign also aims to promote values such as empathy and kindness among students, fostering solidarity and understanding between children. The messages conveyed not only support the morale of those affected by the conflict, but also encourage civic engagement among young people in the Republic of Moldova.

This year, the campaign carries a special significance, as February 24, 2026 marks four years since the Russian Federation launched its invasion of Ukraine, an event that has had a profound impact on the entire region and on Europe. Through this symbolic action, students from Moldova show that peace and solidarity remain fundamental values in education and in community life.

The Ministry of Education and Research thanks all students and teachers who participated in this initiative, emphasizing the importance of mobilizing the educational community to support children affected by war and to promote a culture of empathy and peace.
