CNA conducts over 40 searches at multiple town halls, economic operator in case involving embezzlement of infrastructure funds

Several town halls in the central, northern and southern regions of the Republic of Moldova, as well as the offices of an economic operator and a public institution in Chișinău are targeted in more than 40 searches carried out by officers of the National Anti-Corruption Center (CNA) and prosecutors, as part of a criminal case concerning the embezzlement of national and foreign funds allocated for road infrastructure and water supply and sewage networks.

According to the CNA, the investigations concern alleged acts of corruption committed by public officials and economic agents in the public procurement process, actions that are believed to have caused significant damage to national and European budgets.

At this stage, the criminal investigation actions are being conducted in the town halls of Căușeni, Sângerei, Soroca, Șoldănești, Edineț, Taraclia, Strășeni and Glodeni. Searches are also taking place at the headquarters of an economic operator in Chișinău and the National Office for Regional and Local Development in the capital.

The CNA notes that searches and seizures of documents are being carried out, and the actions are ongoing. Representatives of the institution have announced that they will later provide additional information on the results of the operation.
