
LIVE // Mourning in Moldova. Composer Eugen Doga to be laid to rest today
Eugen Doga will be laid to rest. In memory of the maestro, today is a Day of Mourning throughout the country. The funeral ceremony will take place at the National Palace, where the coffin will be brought in the morning. Eugen Doga will be buried at the Central Cemetery in Chișinău.
According to the Decree signed by President Maia Sandu, on this day, in all localities in the country, as well as in the diplomatic and consular missions of the Republic of Moldova abroad, the State Flag of the Republic of Moldova will be flown at half-mast. Public authorities, enterprises, and organizations are recommended to refrain from holding large-scale entertainment activities, and media institutions are advised to consider the day's specificity when editing publications and forming programs.
The maestro Eugen Doga, one of the most appreciated and beloved composers from the Republic of Moldova and the European cultural space, passed away on 3 June 2025, at the age of 88.
Eugen Doga was a composer, professor, academician, and a notable figure in national culture. He became known worldwide for his musical creations, particularly the famous Waltz from the film "My Sweet and Tender Beast" directed by Emil Loteanu – considered by UNESCO as one of the four musical masterpieces of the 20th century.
Messages of condolences and appreciation have poured in on social media, from stage colleagues, authorities, foreign embassies, and those who admired his work over the years.
