Madrigal choir from Romania comes to Chisinau with extraordinary show Holy Week

The National Chamber Choir Madrigal – Marin Constantin will perform on the stage of the Maria Biesu National Opera and Ballet Theatre from Chisinau. Conducted by Anna Ungureanu, the Extraordinary Show, titled Holy Week, promises to deepen the audience's emotional connection with the Holy Week through a selection of outstanding spiritual works by renowned composers.

The programme includes works by Anton Pann, Nicolae Lungu, Gheorghe Danga, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Krzysztof Penderecki, and Christopher Tin, offering a musical journey through Romanian and universal spirituality.

The show will be augmented with innovative scenography, dynamic settings and light design, while actors Marius Turdeanu and Theo Marton will bring to the stage fragments from the New Testament Gospels. The children’s choirs of the National Cantus Mundi Programme will join the Madrigal' Choir, thus completing an unforgettable show.

The direction and script are signed by Emil Pantelimon and the scenography is created by Vladimir Turturica.

‘’The Extraordinary Show Holy Week gives the audience a retrospective of the last week of Jesus' life. From joy and life to agony and then to ecstasy, from light, to darkness, and back to light, the spectator is part of an avalanche of emotions. We are glad to be present this Easter in cities we haven’t reached for decades and also to bring our show across the Prut river, to Chisinau,’’ said Emil Pantelimon, manager of the Madrigal Choir and director of the show.

The show will take place on April 6, 2025, starting from 19:00, at the National Opera and Ballet Theatre from Chisinau. The event is part of the Easter tour of the Madrigal Choir and is dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the birth of its founder, Marin Constantin.
