Local authorities from 11 districts of Moldova learn to manage sanitation services, beekeeping activities more effectively in EcoContact programme
Preventing conflicts between beekeepers and farmers, locating apiaries, and efficiently organizing sanitation services are the main topics discussed this autumn within the Local Environmental Platforms. The series of training sessions for local public authorities started in Hancesti on September 8, with the aim of supporting mayors' offices in applying the new regulations approved at government level.
The training sessions are held within the project, Green Justice for a Protected Environment and Sustainable Communities in Moldova, implemented by the EcoContact public association, in partnership with the Environment Ministry and with financial support on behalf of Sweden.
The first meeting allowed representatives of local administrations to examine the provisions of the Model Regulation on Beekeeping Activities, as well as the ones of the Framework Regulation on the Public Sanitation Service, approved by the cabinet on September 2, 2026.
„Representatives of local public authorities studied the specific clauses and provisions, in order to ensure their correct implementation at the level of the administrative and territorial units they manage”, the organizers said.
The regulatory framework for beekeeping introduces precise rules for managing public land and cooperation locally. The document addresses „recording the location of apiaries, the use of land owned or administered by local public authorities, communication with beekeepers and agricultural producers, handling complaints and delineating the responsibilities of mayors' offices in relation to other authorities”, project representatives explained.
As for the sanitation, discussions focus on separate waste collection and the sustainability of the service.
„The discussions address the organization of the service at the local level, the collection and sorting of separately collected waste fractions and the transportation of municipal waste, management ways, financing of the public sanitation service, as well as the rights and obligations of operators and users”, EcoContact noted.
The training process will continue in September and October, with 11 Local Environmental Platform meetings and 10 training workshops scheduled in more districts across the country, including Cahul, Ialoveni, Edinet, Calarasi, Rascani, Anenii Noi, Balti, Stefan Voda, Causeni and Falesti.
