New ways to advance Moldova-Bulgaria relations on agenda of discussions between Moldovan foreign affairs minister and Bulgarian MPs

Deputy Prime Minister, Foreign Affairs Minister Mihai Popsoi has had a meeting with President of the National Assembly of Bulgaria Mihaela Dotsova. The discussions were attended by Chair of the Foreign Policy Committee Petar Vitanov, and Chair of the Bulgaria–Moldova Parliamentary Friendship Group Galin Durev.

The officials discussed Moldova-Bulgaria relations, new ways to advance them, as well as interparliamentary cooperation between Moldova and Bulgaria. In this regard, the sides highlighted the importance of exchanging experience and best practices, including at the level of specialized committees and parliamentary friendship groups.

“Moldova and Bulgaria have good relations, which we want to further develop through mutual trust and concrete initiatives. There are many areas in which we can move forward together and dialogue between our parliaments can support our common objectives and contribute to concrete results for the citizens of both countries,” said Deputy Prime Minister Mihai Popsoi.

The Moldovan diplomacy head appreciated Bulgaria’s support for the country’s European integration and emphasized the importance of parliamentary support for opening the remaining four negotiation clusters with the European Union.

Another topic of the meeting concerned the Bulgarian community of Moldova. Mihai Popsoi stressed that Moldova respects the rights of national minorities and supports the preservation of linguistic and cultural identity, including the one of the Bulgarian community.

For their part, the MPs said they would support the European path of Moldova and expressed openness to boosting the interparliamentary cooperation.
