Moldovan foreign affairs minister has meeting with President of Bulgaria

Deputy Prime Minister, Foreign Affairs Minister Mihai Popsoi today in Sofia met President of Bulgaria Iliana Iotova. The officials discussed the European path of Moldova, the next steps in the European Union accession process and the deepening of the Moldovan-Bulgarian relations.

During the meeting, the two officials highlighted the good cooperation between Moldova and Bulgaria and the importance of continuing it for the benefit of the citizens of both countries.

Mihai Popsoi thanked Bulgaria for its support for the European path of Moldova, as well as for supporting development projects in Taraclia and other localities where the Bulgarian community lives, particularly in the fields of education, culture and infrastructure.

“We are counting on Bulgaria’s support in advancing the European path of Moldova, as well as for the opening of the other four negotiating clusters. We want our citizens, whether they live in Taraclia or in another region of the country, to benefit from quality public services, efficient institutions and better living conditions that meet European standards,” Mihai Popsoi said.

The minister emphasized that Moldova continued its efforts toward European integration, despite the challenges it faces.

For her part, President of Bulgaria Iliana Iotova praised the progress made by  Moldova in the European Union accession process and the efforts of the Moldovan authorities to promote reforms.

“Bulgaria stays a trusted partner of Moldova and will support it on its European path. You are one of the candidate countries that has made good progress. This demonstrates your firm commitment to European integration. I urge you to maintain the same pace,” Iliana Iotova said.

The officials also discussed the development of trade and investment relations between the two countries, as well as opportunities for companies from Moldova and Bulgaria.

In 2025, the bilateral trade exceeded 288 million US dollars, while Bulgaria ranked seventh among Moldova’s main export markets.

Presently, 168 companies with Bulgarian capital operate in Moldova.

Deputy Prime Minister, Foreign Affairs Minister Mihai Popsoi today paid an official visit to Sofia, Bulgaria, at an invitation by his Bulgarian counterpart, Velislava Petrova.
