Speaker: Moldova must become relevant security provider in Europe

Speaker Igor Grosu congratulated the employees of the Intelligence and Security Service, which celebrated the 35th anniversary of founding. Grosu wished the officers, non-commissioned officers and all employees strength of character and courage in carrying out the extremely important mission.

“In recent years, security risks have increased significantly, and the SIS mission has become even more complex. The war in Ukraine has shown us how quickly the security environment can change. We face conventional threats—such as espionage, terrorism, illegal migration, and organized crime—as well as new threats, including cyberattacks, disinformation, and propaganda.

These are threats that do not wait. We must anticipate and understand them and wherever possible, prevent them. In this regard, I thank SIS officers for the vigilance, courage and responsibility with which they act in a context marked by uncertainty and unprecedented dangers,” he said.

He also referred to the parade held on August 27 this year, during which the Service demonstrated that it is modernizing with state-of-the-art equipment. These upgrades provide the Service’s employees with a more professional work environment and better prepare our country to deal with challenges.

“As the Republic of Moldova advances in the European integration process, the SIS will have to actively participate in joint efforts to counter cross-border threats. The Republic of Moldova must not be perceived solely as a security beneficiary. Our country must become a relevant provider of expertise and a credible partner in the European security architecture,” Grosu also said.
