CEC: Electoral information systems and voter data not affected by cybersecurity incident

The Central Electoral Commission (CEC) announces that electoral information systems and voter data were not affected by the cybersecurity incident.

According to the CEC, the data of all voters is safe.

“The integrity, confidentiality, and availability of voters’ personal data have not been compromised, ensuring the continuity of activities related to the administration of electoral processes, including the operation of the State Register of Voters. Protecting voter data and securely managing information systems are institutional priorities,” the Commission emphasized.

The CEC reaffirms its commitment to ensuring the security of the information infrastructure it manages, thereby contributing to the proper conduct of electoral processes and strengthening citizens’ trust.

Approximately 750,000 state identification numbers (IDNPs) may have been targeted for unauthorized data extraction following the cyberattack on government systems in the Republic of Moldova. According to preliminary investigations, between October 19 and 23, the attackers queried approximately one million IDNPs in an attempt to obtain personal data.
