Authorities consult transport partners on new methodology for calculating road transport tariffs
The Ministry of Infrastructure and Regional Development (MIDR) held public consultations on the draft for approving the Methodology for calculating tariffs for passenger and baggage transportation services by road. The initiative aims to create a modern and accessible road transport system, focused on citizens' needs and in line with international standards.
Today's meeting, chaired by Deputy Prime Minister Vladimir Bolea was attended by officials from local public authorities and transport employer associations.
“During the consultation session, a series of technical and conceptual aspects regarding the tariff calculation method were clarified. Topics related to the way tariffs are set, the indicators that form the basis of the calculations, and their application by the National Road Transport Agency and District Councils were discussed,” explains MIDR.
The draft decision aims to bring several benefits.
Moreover, it is planned to monitor the correct application of tariffs, protecting passengers from abuse or unjustified price increases; transparency in tariff calculation, which will increase public confidence in the transport system; investments in modernization and advanced technologies – the new mechanism will include all direct and indirect costs related to providing quality services, including those for implementing digital technologies; flexibility in adjusting tariffs – the proposed calculation model will allow quick interventions on tariffs, based on changes in operating costs.
MIDR invites all interested parties to contribute with proposals and suggestions on the draft decision, which can be sent to the following addresses: secretariat@midr.gov.md or roadtransport@midr.gov.md, before 21 March 2025.
