World Congress of Vine and Wine in Chisinau

The World Congress of Vine and Wine, held in Chisinau on June 16-20, 2025, concluded with the adoption of 14 essential resolutions for the future development of the global wine sector. They were approved at the 23rd General Assembly of the International Organization of Vine and Wine (OIV) and cover areas such as viticulture, oenology, food safety, wine law, and education on responsible consumption.

Among the most important resolutions are: measures to combat Flavescence dorée disease in vines; updating labeling standards for spirit drinks of vitiviniculture origin; introducing a new scoring form for international wine competitions; educational guides for reducing excessive alcohol consumption.

Ștefan Iamandi, director of the National Office of Vine and Wine, emphasized the importance of this event. “It was an honor to host this international congress, a clear recognition of the progress of the Republic of Moldova in the field of winemaking. The professional relationships established here will have a lasting impact,” Iamandi estimated.

“Even in the face of numerous crises, Moldovan wine has become more modern, more qualitative, and increasingly appreciated in international markets,” mentioned Ludmila Catlabuga, Minister of Agriculture and Food Industry, highlighting the resilience of the sector.

The event brought together about 500 international experts in over 300 thematic sessions, including technical visits to the top wineries in the country. Adrian Oelofse, an industry representative from South Africa, noted the quality of Moldovan wine, while Fernanda Spinelli, an OIV official from Brazil, appreciated the local tradition and opportunities for international collaboration.

The congress was organized by OIV, in partnership with the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry and the National Office of Vine and Wine. The Republic of Moldova has been a member of OIV since 2001, being the first country in the CIS to join the organization. The congress in Chisinau marks the beginning of OIV's second century, which celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2024.
