Energocom company of Moldova purchases about 782 million cubic meters of gas to fully meet the consumption needs for 2025–2026 gas year

The Energocom stock company acquired, during May-December this year, 8.33 million MWh of natural gas, equivalent to about 782 million cubic meters. The move is needed, in order to fully meet the national consumption needs for the 2025–2026 gas year, which started on October 1, 2025, and will end on September 30, 2026.

The purchased volumes cover current consumption with continuous delivery to consumers, the need for balancing and covering consumption peaks, storage obligation according to regulatory requirements, and the security stock as a protection measure in exceptional situations.

At the same time, in 2025, Energocom fully utilized the 20-million-euros grant provided by the European Union. From these funds, approximately 26.5 million cubic meters of natural gas were purchased during February 1–10, according to the requests of Tiraspoltransgaz and the orders of the Commission for Emergency  Situations. The purchase transactions were conducted on the Romanian and Bulgarian stock exchanges, in accordance with legal provisions and regulatory requirements.

Additionally, the supplier base was expanded through the prequalification round organized in collaboration with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development. The list of eligible companies increased from 15 to 21 international suppliers, offering more flexibility and diversification in the natural gas supply.

In 2025, Energocom marked a historic milestone by signing its first long-term three-year purchase contract with OMV Petrom, one of the leading energy market players in the region. Under this Agreement, the company purchased natural gas originating from the strategic Neptun Deep project, the largest natural gas project in the Black Sea and the first deep-water offshore project in Romania. Neptun Deep has estimated reserves of about 100 billion cubic meters, and deliveries were set to be made at the virtual trading point in Romania, ensuring a constant flow of natural gas to Moldova and contributing to strengthening the country's energy security.

As of September 1, 2025, Energocom took over the role of a supplier with a public service obligation and delivers natural gas to over 800,000 consumers.
