Subsidies worth 178 million lei for Moldova's farmers authorized in last May
The Agency for Intervention and Payments in Agriculture (AIPA) in last May authorized applications for the payment of subsidies totaling 178.49 million lei for farmers. The funds are directed to farmers through more support schemes, including post-investment subsidies, advance payments, the LEADER Programme and subsidization of agricultural insurance premiums.
According to AIPA, the largest share of the amount, 102.15 million lei, was authorized for 86 applications under post-investment subsidies, which involve investments in livestock farms, agricultural infrastructure, the wine sector and irrigation systems.
As much as 27.72 million lei was authorized for investments in livestock farms. The support covers 15 farms, including construction and modernization works, endowment with machinery and equipment, as well as the purchase of biological material and breeding animals.
As much as 24.80 million lei was authorized for 15 investment projects for production, processing and marketing infrastructure in the crop sector. They include the construction and reconstruction of six agricultural warehouses, the construction of a cold storage facility with a capacity of 1,900 tons, as well as the purchase of technological equipment and machinery.
Likewise, for the wine sector, 14.08 million lei were authorized. The funds are allocated for the reconstruction and equipping of a storage facility for viticulture material, the construction of two cold storage facilities with a total capacity of 760 tons and the purchase of necessary equipment for the wine sector.
Irrigation systems and equipment attracted authorized subsidies amounting to 8.55 million lei, which will allow the installation of irrigation systems on an area of 67.92 hectares.
Another 43.54 million lei was authorized under the advance payment scheme. Of this amount, 42.92 million lei represent the first installment for 56 investment projects submitted in 2025, while 620 thousand lei represent the second tranche for two projects submitted in 2023 and 2024. Most of the applications authorized under this support scheme relate to the modernization of livestock farms.
The support contributes to the equipping and modernization of 39 beekeeping farms, 9 sheep and goat farms, and 5 cattle farms. The investments include the purchase of equipment, breeding animals, bee colonies, beehives, tractors, automated control and monitoring systems, as well as other equipment necessary for farms.
Also under advance payments, three applications were authorized for protected-ground production, through the construction of three greenhouses with a total area of 12,300 square meters; one application for knowledge transfer, innovation and training, through the purchase of greenhouse equipment; and one application for the development of rural economic infrastructure, through the construction of 533 meters of road.
In May, AIPA authorized 32.78 million lei under the LEADER Programme. Of this amount, 32.40 million lei is meant to support the operation of local action groups. They represent the first payments made from the financial sources of Moldova’s Growth Plan.
At the same time, 20 thousand lei was authorized for subsidizing agricultural insurance premiums, for two applications.
The National Fund for Agriculture and Rural Development amounts to approximately 2.326 billion lei in 2026.
