Over 8.1 billion lei to be invested in next ten years in upgrading and expanding Moldova's electricity transmission network
Over 8.1 billion lei is set to be invested in the next ten years to modernize and expand Moldova's electricity transmission network. The figures are contained in the Electricity Network Development Plan for 2025–2034, presented by Moldelectrica during public consultations.
The plan includes major projects such as the modernization of over 20 stations of 110/330/400 kV, the construction of new transmission lines, including the 400 kV Vulcănești–Chișinău and Strășeni–Bălți, and the introduction of advanced adjustment and protection equipment.
The plan represents a strategic document essential for ensuring energy security, integrating renewable sources, optimizing power flows, and enhancing interconnection capacities with Romania and Ukraine.
Present at the event, Minister of Energy Dorin Junghietu said that through this plan, authorities aim to build a modern, robust, and interoperable transmission network capable of meeting the energy market demands of the next decade.
“It is a concrete step towards strengthening Moldova's energy security and fully integrating into the European electricity market,” the minister said.
Acting director-general of Moldelectrica company Sergiu Aparatu said that the plan reflects both the reality of the current infrastructure and the ongoing pressure exerted by the emergence of new production capacities, particularly from renewable sources.
According to technical evaluations, a significant part of the existing infrastructure is nearing the end of its techno-economic lifespan, and its development can no longer be postponed.
