Enhanced tax transparency: Moldova to report accounts, cryptocurrencies

Moldova will include cryptocurrencies in the automatic exchange of financial account information with other countries. This decision comes after the parliament's foreign policy commission today approved the advisory opinion to initiate negotiations and sign the Amendment to the multilateral Agreement signed in Berlin in 2014.

According to the Finance Ministry, the amendment will update the present framework of the automatic exchange of information, in order to reflect financial market developments and new tax risks, including those related to digital assets. The aim is to introduce additional information between tax authorities and to enhance transparency and tax compliance.

Moldova has been authorized to conduct reciprocal data exchanges regarding financial accounts in 2023, with the first exchange taking place in 2024. Presently, over 120 countries conduct the same type of automatic information exchange.

After the Amendment is signed, it will be proposed for ratification in the parliament’s plenum.
