Moldova to have Intelligent Transport Systems Strategy
The Republic of Moldova will have Intelligent Transport Systems Strategy (ITS), which will underpin the digitalization and modernization of transport in the coming years. The concept of the Strategy was presented during a technical workshop held in Chisinau, on June 18-19, under the aegis of the Permanent Secretariat of the Transport Community.
The document will outline the ways in which modern technologies will be integrated into the transport infrastructure and services, allowing people to benefit from safer, faster, and more efficient travel. The initiative comes in the context of Moldova's commitments to accelerate digital transformation and align with European standards in transport infrastructure.
"Over the two days, national and international experts, representatives of public institutions, the academic environment, and the private sector analyzed in detail the current state of transport in Moldova, the strengths and challenges of the system, alignment with European practices in the ITS field, the real needs of authorities, and citizens. Proposals were made regarding the mission, vision, and objectives of the future strategy, as well as an initial set of performance indicators that will allow progress measurement," explains the Ministry of Infrastructure and Regional Development (MIDR).
State Secretary of MIDR for road infrastructure Nicolai Mîndra thanked the expert team for their efforts and emphasized the importance of this strategy for transforming Moldova's transport infrastructure.
"The development of the National ITS Strategy is an important step for the modernization of the transport sector. We want to build a system where technology works in favor of people: fewer delays, more safety, less pollution," mentioned Nicolai Mîndra.
In the coming months, the team of experts will continue the dialogue with key stakeholders and work on a preliminary version of the Strategy.
