Moldovan carriers to move freely in EU until 2027: strategic trade and logistics agreement signed in Chisinau

Freight carriers from Moldova will be able to move without restrictions in the European Union till March 31, 2027, following the official extension of the Road Freight Transport Agreement between Chisinau and Brussels. The document today was signed at the Ministry of Infrastructure and Regional Development (MIDR) by the Secretary of State in the field of transport, Mircea Pascaluta, and Kristian Schmidt, Director for Land Transport of the European Commission.

The agreement allows Moldovan carriers to operate on the EU territory without special permits, facilitating both bilateral transport and transit through member states.

"The document ensures the increase of exports and imports with EU member states, access to a safe and stable European commercial market, strengthening Moldova's role as a partner of Ukraine in the recovery process and simplifying and streamlining the logistics chains Ukraine-Moldova-European Union. Thanks to this regime, operators from Moldova can continue to move freely in the member states of the European Union, both in bilateral transport and in transit, strengthening trade, economic ties and the country's integration into the European market," said MIDR.

Also today, the Official Journal (Monitorul Oficial) published the decree, signed by President Maia Sandu, which provides for the initiation of negotiations with the EU on the draft Decision no. 1/2025 of the Moldovan-European Joint Committee.

The aim of the decision is to strengthen collaboration with the European Union in the road freight transport field, a strategic sector for Moldova’s economy, which ensures direct connection with European markets.

The implementation of new rules and procedures will contribute to facilitating trade exchanges with EU countries; increasing logistics efficiency and transport safety; and the gradual integration of Moldova into the European transport system.
