Superior Council of Prosecutors announces competition for position of Moldova's Prosecutor General

The Superior Council of Prosecutors (CSP) today ruled to initiate the competition for the selection of a candidate for the position of Moldova’s Prosecutor General. Applications can be submitted till July 21, 2025.

At a today's meeting, CSP members informed that, according to current legislation, the Council has 30 days to initiate the procedure for organizing the competition.

Who can apply for the position of Prosecutor General

Individuals with at least 10 years of professional experience in law, got in the jurisdiction of Moldova or in foreign jurisdictions, including in international organizations, of which at least 5 years in the position of judge, prosecutor, lawyer, or criminal investigation officer, can apply for the position of Prosecutor General;

- hold Moldovan citizenship; know the Romanian language;

- possess a bachelor's degree and a master's degree in law or an equivalent educational qualification;

- have an impeccable reputation;

- have not been previously found guilty of committing a crime;

- in the last three years prior to the announcement of the competition, have not been members and have not carried out political activities within a political party or social and political organization;

- in the last six months, have not held the position of member of the Superior Council of Prosecutors.

Procedure of submitting applications 

Applications for the announced competition will be submitted to the Office of the Superior Council of Prosecutors by 07/21/2025, at 17:00. Applications sent after this date will not be considered.

The position of Prosecutor General became vacant following Ion Munteanu's appointment as a judge of the Supreme Court of Justice (SCJ). Currently, the interim position is held by the former deputy chief prosecutor of the Prosecutor's Office for Combating Organized Crime and Special Cases (PCCOCS), Alexandru Machidon.
