
Electoral processes in Moldova under the spotlight of Google, META
Members of the Central Electoral Commission (CEC) today met representatives of Google and Facebook/META, in order to discuss enhancing cooperation for ensuring the integrity and transparency of electoral processes, particularly online.
According to the CEC’s press service, the meeting took place in the context of the commission's efforts to address challenges posed by the quick evolution of the digital environment, including combating disinformation, illegal political financing and other risks threatening the fairness of elections.
The discussions focused on ensuring a safe digital space for electoral debate, promoting transparency in online political advertising, as well as developing critical thinking and information education among voters.
At the same time, the parties analyzed ways to identify and combat illegal or misleading content and disinformation campaigns that may influence public perception.
Representatives of Google and META expressed their support for the CEC's initiatives, reiterating their commitment to actively cooperate, in order to protect the integrity of elections in Moldova.
