Moldova's leadership extends condolences after plane crash in India

President Maia Sandu and Prime Minister Dorin Recean have expressed messages of sympathy following the aviation tragedy that occurred in the city of Ahmedabad, India.

“I extend my sincere condolences to all those affected by the tragic aviation accident in Ahmedabad. In these painful moments, Moldova stands with the people of India and the families who have lost loved ones,” wrote the head of state, Maia Sandu, in a message published on platform X.

Prime Minister Dorin Recean noted that Moldova was in solidarity with the people of India during these difficult times.

“Deeply saddened by the tragic aviation accident in Ahmedabad, India. Our thoughts are with the passengers, crew and all those affected by this tragedy. Moldova stands in solidarity with the people of India in these challenging times,” wrote Recean.

A Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, belonging to Air India, today crashed shortly after takeoff. The accident resulted in the deaths of all 242 people on board, as well as at least five people on the ground.

The aircraft took off from Ahmedabad airport bound for London, but shortly after, it crashed onto a student dormitory. Search and rescue operations are ongoing.
