Chisinau, June 13. /MOLDPRES/- President of the Republic of Moldova Maia Sandu participated today in the second edition of the Women 4 Security, organized by the Ministry of Internal Affairs. The event represents a platform for women from the Republic of Moldova and Romania where they can discuss security and identify forms of collaboration, the presidential press service has reported.
"In these complicated times, when security risks have increased exponentially, women in our region are on the front line to provide safety and protect peace in the country, in the workplace, and in Ukraine even on the frontline," the head of state said.
Maia Sandu said that now women are increasingly involved in public life. In the Parliament, women represent 40% - a record number in the history of the Republic of Moldova. Several important ministries are headed by women. Women lead a quarter of the country's localities. This autumn, the minimum representation quota of 40% for women and men will be applied for the first time in local elections as well, in the stage of drawing up the candidate lists.
"The Moldovan women have demonstrated they have the power and the necessary qualities to occupy leadership positions, that they can govern with dignity and courage, including in times of multiple crises, difficult times, with the war at the border," the president said.
The head of state also spoke about the dramatic situation of women in Ukraine who are not only victims of war, they are also victims of mass deportations, sexual and physical violence. "I urge you to work as a united team to build a safe world, a world where every human life is valued, protected and respected!", concluded Maia Sandu.
