On 21 May, President of the Republic of Moldova Maia Sandu paid a working visit to the southern part of the country to evaluate the progress of strategic infrastructure and regional development projects.

The visit began at the construction site of 400 kV Vulcănești–Chișinău overhead power line – one of the most important energy projects launched in recent decades. Over 200 workers are simultaneously operating over a distance of more than 100 kilometers across four districts.

“This is one of the most important energy projects launched since independence. Once completed, this line will significantly enhance our country's energy security and protect us from the blackmail we've been subjected to for three decades. The line needs to become operational by the end of this year,” said the head of state.

In Vulcănești, the President inspected the construction of the bypass road, a project funded by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, worth 21 million euros. So far, over 70% of the work has been completed, and the new 8 km road is expected to be operational by the end of the year.

“The bypass road around the city of Vulcănești will streamline traffic and enhance road safety in the region. The new beltway will provide a direct connection to Giurgiulești port, reducing goods transportation time and stimulating economic development in the south of the country,” said President Sandu.

Also in Vulcănești, this year, work began on the rehabilitation of the city's water supply networks, which are in an advanced state of wear. Moreover, by the end of the year, the cultural center will be renovated. For these projects alone, the Government has allocated almost 70 million lei through the National Fund for Regional and Local Development. Overall, in the Gagauz autonomy, through the European Village programs 1 and 2, 34 projects valued at about 150 million lei have been funded, contributing to the modernization of localities in the region.

The visit concluded with a meeting with employees of Bostavan Winery, part of Purcari Group. Its products, one of the country's largest wine exporters, reach markets in over 25 states.
