Moldova to join Hague Convention
The Republic of Moldova is set to join the Convention for the Pacific Settlement of International Disputes, signed in The Hague on 18 October 1907. The legal committee on rules and immunities has approved the report on the draft law that provides for this decision.
By joining the treaty, the Republic of Moldova commits to avoiding resorting to violence and promoting diplomatic and legal solutions in the event of international conflicts.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs believes that the step will strengthen Moldova's image as a responsible state committed to maintaining international peace and security, especially in the context of the country's candidate status for accession to the European Union. Additionally, joining will enable the country to use recognized international mechanisms for dispute resolution, thereby contributing to regional stability.
Currently, 124 states, including all European Union member countries are parties to the Convention. Moldova's accession will represent a new step towards aligning with international community standards and values.
