Moldovan government decided to increase security stock volume of natural gas
Government decided today to increase the volume of security stocks of natural gas to 50 million cubic meters, a quantity corresponding to the natural gas consumption over at least 10 days in the previous calendar winter period.
Thus, the amount of natural gas to be constituted as security stocks will be increased by 2.9 million m3, from 47.1 million m3 to 50 million m3. The necessary amount of 2.9 million m3 of gas is to be purchased by Energocom.
The project envisages that the security stocks of natural gas up to the level established by the government will be created by October 1, 2025.
Energy Minister Dorin Junghietu said that the security stocks will only be used in emergency situations in the natural gas sector.
The project’s informative note stipulates that by creating security stocks of natural gas, the impact of potential exceptional situations in the natural gas sector on the national economy will be reduced.
Starting October 1, 2024, the volume of natural gas purchased as security stocks was 47.1 million m3.
In Moldova, the number of final natural gas consumers exceeds 830 thousand and electricity over 1,322 thousand. Our country is practically 100% dependent on natural gas imports, and only 20% of the annually consumed electricity is produced locally, the project's informative note reads. In recent years, our country has made significant progress in diversifying natural gas supply sources, eliminating dependence on a single supplier.
