PM: We continue working to conclude social security agreements with countries where Moldovan citizens reside

The authorities continue to work towards concluding Social Security Agreements with countries where citizens of the Republic of Moldova reside. Prime Minister Dorin Recean made the statement at today's cabinet meeting after the Cabinet of Ministers approved the signing of the Administrative Arrangement for the implementation of the Agreement between the Republic of Moldova and the Italian Republic in the social security.

Minister of Labor and Social Protection Alexei Buzu said that the Social Protection Agreement between the Republic of Moldova and the Italian Republic is set to be ratified tomorrow by the Italian Chamber of Deputies.

Recean highlighted that this is a very important project for all our citizens who have worked and continue to work in Italy.

The Republic of Moldova has concluded bilateral agreements in the social security with 18 countries: Bulgaria, Portugal, Romania, Luxembourg, Austria, Estonia, the Czech Republic, Belgium, Poland, Hungary, Lithuania, Germany, Turkey, Belarus, Italy, Greece, Spain and Latvia. 16 of them are in force.

The agreements establish a framework of social security guarantees for citizens of the Republic of Moldova who perform or have performed legal work activities in these territories. Based on them, individuals can benefit from old-age pensions, disability pensions due to general disorders, disability pensions and allowances following work accidents or caused by occupational diseases, and survivor's pensions.

According to the legislation, each contracting state pays the part of the pension calculated proportionally to the insurance period completed on its own territory. Thus, individuals can receive the benefits acquired in the state where they have worked on the territory of their residence state.
