Moldovan president welcomes European Commission’s Enlargement Report, which shows Moldova’s progress toward access to European Union
President Maia Sandu today welcomed the European Commission’s enlargement report on Moldova, which reflects the work carried out over the past year to modernize the country. The report, published as part of the 2026 Enlargement Package, notes progress in all 33 negotiating chapters over the past 12 months. Four of the six negotiating clusters were opened during 2026.
The report takes note of Moldova’s goal of concluding accession negotiations by 2028, which the Commission considers ambitious, but achievable, provided that the pace of reforms is maintained. “This assessment should give us confidence that, by continuing our work, we can achieve the objectives we have set as a country,” President Maia Sandu said.
The report also mentions areas where additional efforts are needed: the implementation of adopted laws and concrete results in corruption cases, including at the highest level. The Enlargement Package is presented annually by the European Commission for all countries that are candidates or potential candidates for accession to the European Union.
