Moldovan president says Moldova makes progress in all 33 chapters of negotiations with EU

Moldova has made progress in all 33 negotiation chapters, while the European Commission considers Moldova’s objective of concluding accession negotiations by 2028 ambitious, but achievable, provided that the country maintains the pace of reforms. President Maia Sandu made statements to this effect, after the European Commission published its annual Enlargement Package today.

The head of state pointed out that the report on Moldova reflected the work carried out over the past year to align with EU standards, with progress in all 33 negotiation chapters.

“The European Commission published its annual Enlargement Package today, showing where each candidate country stands on its path toward the European Union. The report on Moldova shows the work carried out over the past year to align with EU standards. Over the past 12 months, we have made progress in all 33 negotiation chapters,” Maia Sandu said.

According to the Moldovan president, the authorities must maintain the pace of reforms, in order to achieve the goal of concluding accession negotiations by 2028, which the European Commission considers ambitious, but achievable.

“We have set ourselves the goal of concluding accession negotiations by 2028. The European Commission considers this objective ambitious, but achievable, if we maintain the pace of reforms. This assessment should give us confidence that, by continuing our work, we can achieve the objectives we have set as a country,” the president said.

The head of state added that the report also specifies where more work is needed: implementing the laws adopted and achieving concrete results in corruption cases.

“We know what we have to do. I thank everyone who carries out this work day by day—in public institutions, civil society, and the private sector. We will continue,” Maia Sandu said.

The European Commission on November 4, the 2026 published the Enlargement Report, which includes an assessment of the progress made by Moldova in its accession process. European Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos said that Moldova was accelerating the pace of reforms and that the European Union could issue an opinion on the country’s progress in the accession process by the end of 2026.
