Chișinău, October 29, 2026 – The bill transposing into national legislation the provisions of Directive (EU) 2018/1808 on audiovisual media services and providing for an increased share of television programmes in Romanian and domestic content in the audiovisual space was adopted by Parliament in third reading. Aligning the Code of Audiovisual Media Services with the European directive will enable the Republic of Moldova to fully participate in Creative Europe programme in the future.

For the third reading, following recommendations made by expert groups in the audiovisual field, the bill was supplemented with amendments intended to improve the provisions of the Code of Audiovisual Media Services. These include regulations aimed at supporting domestic audiovisual production; ensuring the independence of the regional public media service provider in the Autonomous Territorial Unit of Gagauzia – Gagauziya Radio Televizionu Company (GRT); rules regarding acquired audiovisual programmes; the protection of minors from programmes that may affect their physical, mental or moral development; and protecting the public from illegal content in audiovisual programmes. In addition, the clarification of certain concepts, in accordance with EU legislation, will ensure a clear interpretation and uniform application of the rules.

The law will enter into force six months after its publication in the Official Journal, except for certain provisions that will apply from the date of entry into force of the Treaty on the Accession of the Republic of Moldova to the European Union.
