2026 Enlargement Report // Deputy PM for European integration says Moldova made progress in all negotiating chapters
Moldova has made progress in all 33 negotiating chapters for accession to the European Union, and in 25 of them, it has advanced to a higher level of preparedness. At the same time, the European Commission has proposed a roadmap providing for the possibility of concluding accession negotiations in 2028, if the country maintains the pace of reforms. Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration Cristina Gherasimov made statements to this effect following the publication of the 2026 Enlargement Report today.
According to Cristina Gherasimov, the report confirms the significant progress made by the country in the European integration process over the past 12 months.
“The 2026 Enlargement Report, published by the European Commission today, confirms that Moldova has made significant progress on its European path over the past 12 months. We have made progress in all negotiating chapters, and in 25 chapters, we have advanced to a higher level of preparedness for accession,” Cristina Gherasimov said.
The European Commission has proposed a roadmap for Moldova, providing for the possibility of concluding accession negotiations in 2028.
“The Commission has also proposed a roadmap for Moldova, which clearly says that Moldova can conclude accession negotiations in 2028, if it maintains the same pace of reforms it has proved in recent years,” the deputy PM noted.
Cristina Gherasimov emphasized that, despite the progress achieved, Moldova still had important reforms to carry out in the coming years.
“I thank all public servants, experts and partners who worked day and night to achieve these remarkable results! However, we still have a great deal of work ahead of us in the coming years. I invite everyone interested to discuss the progress, challenges and recommendations of the 2026 Enlargement Report on November 9 and 10,” the official added.
Moldova is negotiating EU accession across 33 chapters, grouped into six clusters. So far, four clusters have been opened, while negotiations on the remaining two, Green agenda and sustainable connectivity, and Resources, agriculture and cohesion, are due to be launched. The authorities must continue implementing the reforms necessary for the provisional closure of the chapters, with the goal of completing accession negotiations in 2028.
