Alexandru Munteanu: assessment of ministers for new cabinet completed 80%

The new candidate for the position of prime minister, Alexandru Munteanu, spoke openly about the process of forming the future cabinet and the priorities he will pursue in governance during a TV show. He said that he does not plan to become a member of PAS and does not have a magic wand to change things overnight.

Munteanu explained that the assessment of ministers and the selection of new team members is proceeding quickly but cautiously:

'We have already evaluated the ministers and have essentially met with everyone, except for two individuals who are currently abroad but with whom I will talk in the coming days. It is a process, but I can say that we have completed approximately 80-90% of the assessment,' Munteanu declared.

Regarding collaboration with former Prime Minister Dorin Recean, Munteanu stressed the importance of a tandem based on trust and respect:

'The work we did together with Prime Minister Recean is very effective because I was his professor. This helps to establish a working tandem based on mutual trust.'

The candidate explained that the main priority of the future government will be the implementation of the governing program and transforming it into a clear strategic plan for the entire country:

'We will combine the objectives of the PAS program with the citizens' needs to turn these objectives into a clear strategic plan for the government. Most citizens have voted for European integration, and the realistic goal remains: Moldova's accession to the European Union by 2028.'

In addition to forming the cabinet, Munteanu emphasized the importance of security and state preparedness in the regional context:

'Moldova is a small country, and we need to be prepared for any eventuality, considering the regional context. We protect ourselves through partnerships and by modernizing defense systems. My experience and what I have seen in Ukraine show us that we need to be prepared, without relying solely on others.'

The candidate explained his decision to accept the position of prime minister as an act of patriotism:

'President was very convincing. When the country calls, you cannot refuse. I felt it was a moment of responsibility and I want to contribute concretely to the future of Moldova.'

Munteanu promises a balanced, efficient government oriented toward economic growth, without radical and hasty changes, but with a solid continuity of the team.

Today, the Constitutional Court confirmed the parliamentary election results and validated the mandates of the elected deputies. In the coming period, President Maia Sandu is to convene the new Parliament in its constitutive session, during which the final report of the Court will be presented.

The newly elected deputies will have ten days to elect the leadership of the Parliament and form the parliamentary factions. After the establishment of the Legislature, the head of state will appoint the candidate for prime minister, who will have 15 days to present the list of ministers and the government program to obtain the Parliament's vote of confidence.
