
Security alert at Chisinau Airport following discovery of luggage with possible explosive contents; passengers evacuated
A security alert today was triggered at the Eugen Doga International Airport of Chisinau, after a suspicious piece of luggage, potentially containing an explosive substance, had been discovered. Passengers were evacuated and security forces are conducting checks.
According to airport administration, the Border Police and specialized subdivisions of the Interior Ministry intervened immediately on-site, in order to secure the area and inspect the suspicious object.
“Passengers and airport staff have been evacuated according to safety procedures,” reads a press release by the Airport.
According to the cited source, following the incident, the passenger check-in procedure was temporarily suspended and some flights may experience schedule changes.
The airport’s administration recommends travelers with scheduled flights today to check the flight status on the airport’s online board, in order to avoid unnecessary trips.
