A large-scale European project, focused on urban adaptation to climate change and modernization of green spaces, will be implemented in the Ungheni city. The initiative will transform the city into a model of sustainable and environmentally friendly development for residents.

The launch of the project titled, Urban Climate Adaptation and Recovery Efforts through Green Infrastructure in the Black Sea Basin – UCare, took place today, in the presence of acting Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Infrastructure and Regional Development Vladimir Bolea, as well as representatives of local authorities, civil associations and community initiative groups.

"The project launched today brings multiple benefits to the Ungheni municipality and its residents: from rehabilitated green spaces to interactive community activities and solutions for biodiversity conservation and climate change adaptation. Ungheni thus becomes an example of a city where everyone can enjoy a nice and modern urban environment," said Deputy Prime Minister Vladimir Bolea.

The UCare project aims to strengthen joint efforts, in order to develop the capacities of the cities of Ungheni (Republic of Moldova), Thermi (Greece), and Tulcea (Romania), by regenerating green areas and enhancing urban resilience to climate change.

During the visit, Deputy Prime Minister Bolea inspected the French Park in Ungheni, which is set to be revitalized both through the UCare project and a project implemented by the ADR Center, funded by the National Fund for Regional and Local Development. The total investment value is 34.1 million lei. Over an area of four hectares, spaces for sports activities, playgrounds for children, pedestrian paths, bicycle lanes and recreation areas will be arranged, all made with sustainable materials and ecological solutions.

Also in Ungheni, the deputy PM conducted a monitoring visit to the construction site of the Flower Bridge, a strategic project in an advanced construction stage. The works are progressing simultaneously on both banks of the Prut River, both in Romania and Moldova.

"It is essential that all works meet the quality standards and the established deadlines for the bridge to become functional by the end of next year," emphasized Vladimir Bolea.

The "UCare" project is financed through the Black Sea Basin Initiative and promotes green solutions for cities more resilient to climate change. In parallel, the works on the Flower Bridge enhance the connectivity between the Republic of Moldova and Romania, contributing to the intensification of economic and social cooperation between the two banks of the Prut River.
