Ambassador: Moldova and Ukraine achieved unprecedented progress in European integration
The Republic of Moldova and Ukraine have achieved “unprecedented progress” in the European integration, this being a priority for both states and the option expressed by their citizens. Ambassador of Ukraine to the Republic of Moldova Paun Rohovei made the statements.
The ambassador emphasized that the future of the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine lies in the European Union.
“Integration into the European Union is a primary priority for Ukraine. In fact, for us this foreign policy priority has two components: European and Euro-Atlantic integration. For Moldova, it is European integration. This is the choice of our peoples. No one has either the moral right or, from the point of view of international law, the right to forbid a people from pursuing or envisioning and realizing its future as it wishes. We have stated firmly: our future is a free, democratic future and we see such a future as possible within the great European family,” the Ambassador said at a TV show.
Paun Rohovei stressed that any potential obstacles in the process of European integration can be overcome through discussions and negotiations by diplomatic means.
“We live in a civilized world; any obstacle can be overcome through negotiations, through civilized diplomatic means. Yes, there are indeed challenges, but so far both the Republic of Moldova, and even more so Ukraine, have shown that all these challenges, if you put your heart into what you do and work hard, can be overcome,” the Ukrainian official said.
Paun Rohovei drew attention to the fact that accession to the European Union is not a simple process and that the path towards integration involves efforts and difficulties.
“Accession to the European Union is not a road that ends in a sea of honey. It is a road that is often difficult,” the diplomat concluded.
The Republic of Moldova and Ukraine submitted their applications for accession to the European Union in 2022. In mid-July of this year, the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine took a new step in the process of European integration by opening Cluster 6 of the accession negotiations.
