Ukraine and Moldova mark 35 years of independence
Ukraine and the Republic of Moldova have gone through many trials over their 35 years of Independence. During this period, we have proven to everyone that we are resilient, that we can face various challenges, and that we know very well how to set our priorities for the future. The message was delivered by Ambassador of Ukraine to Chisinau Paun Rohovei at a TV show.
The official emphasized that 35 years of Independence is a very beautiful age, a period marked by important events for both states.
“With regard to the most important moments in the contemporary history of Ukraine, I would mention the adoption of the Constitution by the Parliament of Ukraine. I would also mention the Orange Revolution and the Revolution of Dignity, which practically created a break with the Soviet and autocratic past. For more than 70 years, the Republic of Moldova, as well as Ukraine, were hostages of that Soviet empire,” said Paun Rohovei.
The ambassador noted that the profound changes experienced by the two countries have created solid premises for building a democratic and European future.
“These radical changes I have spoken about, from the contemporary history of Ukraine, laid the foundation and created a very strong basis for achieving our priorities: a free, democratic future within the great European family,” remarked Paun Rohovei.
Ukraine’s Independence Day is celebrated every year on August 24, while the Republic of Moldova marks its independence on August 27. Ukraine proclaimed its independence in 1991, following the dissolution of the USSR, and our country adopted the Declaration of Independence on August 27, 1991. In the following decades, the two states have gone through processes of consolidating their statehood and moving closer to the European Union.
