Prime Minister at Diaspora Forum: We must restore people’s optimism and confidence that Moldova is moving in right direction

Prime Minister Vasile Tofan took part today in the Diaspora Forum, the main event of the 10th edition of Diaspora Days, held under the motto “Wherever we are, Moldova unites us!”.

In his address to the participants, the official spoke about the strong bond between Moldovans living abroad and their homeland, as well as about the role they can play in the development of the Republic of Moldova.

“One thing that defines us is that we remain united. We are few, but close to one another, and the passion for Moldova remains strong over the years. We have many talented people in all fields, and I encourage you to contribute to the country’s development,” said Tofan.

The Prime Minister emphasized that one of the Government’s main responsibilities is to create the conditions for economic development, investment, and new jobs:

“We must restore people’s optimism. We want Moldovans to believe in this country and to trust that Moldova is choosing the right direction. To achieve this, we must make our citizens’ lives easier, help the economy produce and grow, and enable entrepreneurs to invest and create jobs.”

Referring to measures to stimulate investment, the Prime Minister noted that the Government is acting on two fronts. The first concerns the systemic changes needed for a simpler and more predictable business environment – easier tax administration, less bureaucracy, and fewer unjustified inspections. The second aims at identifying and unblocking investment projects that are already at an advanced stage but are facing certain obstacles.

“We must restart the engines of the economy. Sometimes, unblocking a relatively small number of projects can generate substantial investment and create significant value for the economy,” the Prime Minister noted.

In his dialogue with participants, the Prime Minister answered questions regarding the facilitation of entrepreneurial activity, the situation on the labor and real estate markets, as well as measures aimed at people who have reached retirement age.

The Diaspora Forum brought together Moldovan citizens living abroad, representatives of public institutions, and members of diaspora communities. Discussions in the three thematic panels focused on civic engagement and European integration, the exchange of experience between Moldovan communities abroad, and the diaspora’s contribution to the sustainable development of their home localities.

Diaspora Days 2026 are taking place between 3 and 21 August and include an Open Doors Day in 22 public institutions, 31 workshops in physical and online format, events dedicated to young people, exhibitions, meetings with authors from the diaspora, themed excursions, and other activities aimed at strengthening the bond between citizens abroad and the Republic of Moldova.
