President about Crocmaz explosion: Russia - one waging war of aggression in Ukraine and bears full responsibility for danger brought to our people’s homes

President Maia Sandu condemned the incident that occurred in Crocmaz, Ștefan Vodă district, where a drone-missile fell and exploded, causing damage to several households. The official said “Russia’s war against Ukraine directly affects the Republic of Moldova” and reiterated that “the authorities will strengthen the capacity to monitor and defend the airspace, with the support of external partners”.

The head of state emphasized that in recent years the national airspace has been violated several times, and that Russia’s war against Ukraine directly affects us.

“Yesterday, in Crocmaz, in the Ștefan Vodă district, an aircraft of the drone-missile type fell and exploded. Fortunately, there were no casualties, but several households were affected. The authorities intervened promptly, and investigations are ongoing. Our airspace has been violated multiple times in these years. Russia’s war against Ukraine directly affects us. Russia is the one waging this war of aggression and bears full responsibility for the danger brought to our people’s homes,” said Maia Sandu.

The official highlighted that, in the context of the brutal war at the border, people’s safety is the state’s primary duty.

“We are making it a priority to invest in the capabilities to monitor and defend our airspace and we are working together with our partners to obtain the most effective means of protection. We also remain by Ukraine’s side. The resilience of Ukrainians protects us as well. The defense of our country and support for Ukraine are part of the same effort to restore peace in our region,” Maia Sandu added.

A powerful explosion occurred yesterday afternoon in the locality of Crocmaz, Ștefan Vodă district, which caused a vegetation fire. At the scene, fragments of a combat drone were discovered. No person was injured as a result of the object’s fall and the ensuing fire.

Odesa region was targeted on the night from Saturday to Sunday by a massive combined attack with drones and missiles launched by the Russian army.
