Parliament examined 60 draft laws and adopted 52 acts in July

The Parliament of the Republic of Moldova examined 60 draft normative acts in July, and during the seven plenary sessions held, 52 acts were adopted, including 40 laws and 12 decisions.

According to the Parliament’s Communication and Public Relations Department, 16 of the adopted acts were aimed at harmonizing national legislation with that of the European Union, while 20 were included in the National Programme for the Accession of the Republic of Moldova to the European Union for 2025–2029.

One of the most important moments in the Legislature’s activity in July was the investiture of the Government led by Prime Minister Vasile Tofan. At the same time, Members of Parliament adopted several legislative initiatives on tightening penalties for human trafficking, tougher sanctions for the promotion and distribution of drugs, including the involvement of minors in consumption, aligning labour market legislation with European Union standards, and the priority authorization of strategic energy projects.

The Parliament also approved legislative amendments providing for the inclusion of the periods for which maternity and paternity allowances are granted in the contribution period, as well as the establishment of a parliamentary inquiry committee to examine the activity of state-owned enterprises.

In the first reading, draft laws were approved on enabling citizens to initiate decisions of public interest through the civic initiative mechanism, creating Territorial Agencies for Education, supplementing the Electoral Code with new regulations on postal voting and the organization of elections in the Autonomous Territorial Unit of Gagauzia, recognizing in the Republic of Moldova the qualifications obtained in the European Union by doctors and pharmacists, as well as granting maternity allowance and other social benefits to self-employed workers.
