Deputy Prime Minister: Moldova does not recognize alleged privatization acts carried out by Tiraspol authorities in eastern districts
The Republic of Moldova does not recognize the so‑called privatization acts carried out by Tiraspol authorities in the eastern districts. Since these actions are not recognized and were carried out outside the legal framework, once the state is gradually reintegrated, measures could be taken to allow the return of the assets to the country’s ownership. Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration Valeriu Chiveri made the statement after the cabinet meeting.
The official noted that this does not concern citizens’ private property, such as apartments, houses or land plots.
“We have taken note of the intentions of the structures in Tiraspol to announce new privatizations. The assets put up for sale or included on the privatization list in the eastern districts are the property of the Republic of Moldova, and any privatization action carried out outside the national legal framework produces no legal effects,” said Chiveri.
The Deputy Prime Minister warned people who intend to engage in such privatization actions or to accept such offers that they must assume the legal and financial consequences.
“I would recommend that they weigh these decisions very carefully, because they may prove to be much more costly than they appear at first glance. I am convinced that, in a certain perspective, those who have resorted to such actions will face legal and financial problems. As long as all these actions were illegal, at the moment of the state’s gradual reintegration we could also reach other measures that would allow the return of the assets to the country’s ownership,” remarked Chiveri.
After the cessation of Russian gas deliveries to the Transnistrian region, which took place at the beginning of 2025, the economy on the left bank of the Dniester entered a period of decline. In this context, the administration in Tiraspol included several industrial assets on the privatization list.
