Secretary General of Government at Diaspora Forum: We need each of you to build stronger communities
Secretary General of the Government Alexei Buzu participated today in the Diaspora Forum, organized as part of Diaspora Days 2026. He spoke about the benefits of the local public administration reform, the opportunities offered by European integration for our communities, and the involvement of the diaspora in the development of the Republic of Moldova.
The head of the State Chancellery emphasized that the process of consolidating local administration is necessary in the current demographic context and in order to increase the capacities to absorb external funds. Thus, voluntary amalgamation aims to create stronger town halls, with larger teams and budgets, capable of attracting investments and implementing development projects.
“More than half of the town halls have already made the final decision to amalgamate; by the end of August we expect their number to increase. Every village in the Republic of Moldova will remain and will preserve its identity. What we are doing is trying to change the administrative boundary,” Buzu stressed.
Buzu also urged Moldovans of the diaspora to contribute their experience and skills to the modernization of the country and to consider getting involved in the government team: “Join our team in one way or another. We need each of you.”
The Diaspora Forum brought together Moldovan citizens settled abroad, representatives of public institutions, and of diaspora communities. The discussions focused on civic engagement and European integration, the exchange of experience, and the contribution of the diaspora to the sustainable development of their home localities.
Diaspora Days 2026 take place between 3–21 August and include workshops, youth events, exhibitions, meetings, and activities aimed at strengthening the connection between citizens in the diaspora and the Republic of Moldova.
