Japanese Minister to visit Moldova on 2–3 May
The Republic of Moldova will host on 2 - 3 May 2026 the visit of Japan’s Minister for Internal Affairs and Communications Yoshimasa Hayashi, who will arrive in Chisinau, marking the first visit of a member of the Japanese Cabinet to our country, according to the Embassy of Japan in Moldova.
Yoshimasa Hayashi, who also serves as president of Japan–Moldova Parliamentary Friendship Group, is a prominent figure in Japanese politics, having previously held key positions such as Chief Cabinet Secretary and Minister for Foreign Affairs. The official delegation will also include Shigeharu Aoyama, State Minister for the Environment of Japan.
The Japanese official’s agenda includes meetings with the leadership of our country: President of the Republic of Moldova Maia Sandu; Speaker Igor Grosu; Minister of Foreign Affairs and Deputy Prime Minister Mihai Popșoi; Minister of Internal Affairs Daniela Misail-Nichitin; Minister of Economic Development and Digitalization Eugen Osmocheșu.
A central point of the visit will be the signing of a Memorandum of Cooperation in the digital field between the relevant ministries of the two countries. This document lays the foundations for a solid technological partnership designed to support the modernization and digitalization efforts of the Republic of Moldova with top-tier expertise from Japan.
According to the Japanese diplomatic mission, the main objective of the visit is to deepen bilateral dialogue and identify new prospects for cooperation in areas of common interest. The presence of Japanese officials in Chisinau reconfirms Japan’s commitment to support the development path of the Republic of Moldova and to strengthen diplomatic and economic relations between the two states. The visit also provides the necessary framework for a high-level exchange of views on regional security and on the future development of the Moldova–Japan partnership.
