As of 1 July, new rules to come into force for imports from United States
The Republic of Moldova will eliminate customs duties on the import of several products originating from the United States of America starting 1 July 2026.
According to the new provisions, most industrial products, as well as a range of agricultural products will be exempt from customs duties. These include equipment, instruments and precision devices, medical equipment, sports nutrition products, digital cameras, and sun protection products.
At the same time, certain categories of products considered sensitive for the domestic market will remain subject to the current tariff regime. These include beef, pork and poultry meat, milk and dairy products, as well as sugar and sugar-based products.
The legislative initiative belongs to a group of MPs from the Action and Solidarity Party faction. The authors of the bill state that the amendments aim to restore a tariff policy based on reciprocity in trade relations with the United States of America.
According to them, the USA could maintain or reintroduce a 10% tariff on Moldovan products, and the adjustment of the customs regime would allow the Republic of Moldova to recover part of the affected exports, especially in higher value-added sectors such as fruits, wines, and agro-industrial products.
