Moldovan foreign affairs minister meets NATO Deputy Secretary General; regional security developments on agenda
Deputy Prime Minister, Foreign Affairs Minister Mihai Popsoi today met NATO Deputy Secretary General Radmila Shekerinska, on an official visit to Chisinau. The discussions focused on the priorities of the bilateral partnership agenda, regional security developments and the challenges facing our country in the context of the war in Ukraine.
The officials discussed opportunities to expand cooperation initiatives that will contribute to strengthening the resilience of national institutions.
Minister Mihai Popsoi appreciated NATO’s support for advancing democratic reforms and modernizing the security and defense sector, while also emphasizing Moldova’s interest in continuing to benefit from the Alliance’s expertise and assistance.
“The security of our country and the protection of our citizens are a priority for us. We want strong institutions capable of responding effectively to crisis situations. We are open to cooperation with international partners, including NATO, in order to be better prepared and to contribute to the security and stability of Europe,” said Mihai Popsoi.
For her part, NATO Deputy Secretary General Radmila Shekerinska confirmed the Alliance’s readiness to support the Moldovan authorities in strengthening resilience and developing national capabilities, as well as in deepening political dialogue.
Moldova has been a NATO partner since 1994 through the Partnership for Peace programme, which aims to strengthen defense capabilities, modernize the security sector and increase the interoperability of the armed forces.
The cooperation takes place under the Individual Partnership Action Plan between Moldova and NATO for 2025–2028, which establishes a structured framework tailored to national security and defense priorities.
