Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs Mihai Popșoi and his Estonian counterpart, Margus Tsahkna participated today in the launch of IMPACT North project in Bălți, funded by the Estonian Centre for International Development. It will strengthen regional capacities in support of European integration and the development of projects relevant to communities in the northern part of the country.
During the visit, the two officials delivered a joint public lecture at Alecu Russo State University.
“We spoke with students and members of the academic community about the steps we are taking toward the Republic of Moldova’s accession to the EU, the lessons we can learn from Estonia’s experience, and opportunities for cooperation in education,” Mihai Popșoi said.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Estonia, Margus Tsahkna, is paying a visit to the Republic of Moldova on October 5–6. As part of the visit, the opening ceremony of the Embassy of the Republic of Estonia in Chișinău took place yesterday. Until now, the diplomatic mission had been based in Bucharest.
Authorities in Chișinău emphasize that Tallinn’s decision to open a resident embassy in Moldova reflects Estonia’s commitment to strengthening relations with the Republic of Moldova. The diplomatic mission’s presence will contribute to intensified cooperation between the two countries and facilitate the coordination of joint projects in support of citizens of both states.
The Republic of Moldova opened its embassy in Tallinn in 2006. Diplomatic relations between the two countries were established in November 1992.
