DOC // New general structure, staffing of Moldova's National Army enter into force
The new general structure and staffing of the National Army has entered into force following today’s publication of the parliament’s decision in the Official Journal of Moldova. The document repeals the 2001 decision that previously regulated the general structure and staffing of the National Army and institutions of the Defense Ministry.
According to the decision, the general structure and staffing of the National Army were approved pursuant to the Law on National Defense.
The document’s annex contains information classified as a state secret and is subject to the regime established by the Law on State Secrets.
With the entry into force of the new decision, Parliament Decision No. 679 of 2001 approving the general structure and staffing of the National Army and institutions of the Defense Ministry was repealed.
The parliament examined the structure and staffing of the National Army at a closed meeting on October 8.
According to Speaker Igor Grosu, the adopted document is part of efforts to modernize and strengthen Moldova’s defense capabilities, while the situation in the region requires these processes to be accelerated.
Until now, the National Army had approximately 6,500 military personnel and 2,000 civilians.
