Embassy of Estonia officially opens in Chisinau

Estonia is strengthening its diplomatic presence in Moldova. The ceremony of opening of the Embassy of Estonia took place in Chisinau. The event was attended by Deputy Prime Minister, Foreign Affairs Minister Mihai Popsoi, Estonia’s Foreign Affairs Minister Margus Tsahkna, as well as representatives of the diplomatic corps.

Mihai Popsoi said that the opening of a resident embassy in Chisinau demonstrated Estonia’s commitment to deepening bilateral relations and would contribute to boosting the cooperation between the two countries.

“It is an honor to participate in the opening of the Embassy of Estonia. The fact that our Estonian friends now have a permanent presence in Chisinau confirms the strong partnership and friendship that has connected us for decades,” Mihai Popsoi said.

For his part, Estonia’s Foreign Affairs Minister Margus Tsahkna reaffirmed his country’s support for Moldova and its European path.

“I am pleased to be here today and to open the Embassy of Estonia in Chisinau, an objective that has been a priority for me. Our message is clear: we will continue to support you on your path toward the European Union. I am convinced that a prosperous and secure future awaits us together,” Margus Tsahkna said.

According to the officials, the permanent presence of Estonia’s diplomatic mission in Chisinau will facilitate the coordination of joint projects and contribute to the development of cooperation in areas of interest to citizens of both countries.

Until now, the Embassy of Estonia accredited to Moldova was based in Bucharest. Moldova opened its Embassy in Tallinn in 2006, and the diplomatic relations between the two countries were established in November 1992.
