Moldovan president conveys congratulatory message to new Chancellor of Germany

President Maia Sandu conveyed a congratulatory message for the new chancellor of Germany's new Chancellor, Friedrich Merz, elected to office today. The head of state said that she excepted a strengthening of Moldova-Germany relations ‘'in order to build a peaceful Europe.’’

‘’Congratulations to Friedrich Merz for being elected as the Chancellor of Germany. I look forward to working together to strengthen the Moldova-Germany relations and to build a peaceful, united Europe that includes Moldova as part of it,’’ Maia Sandu wrote on her Platform X account.

Conservative Friedrich Merz received the Bundestag's vote to lead the governing coalition consisting of his CDU/CSU bloc and social democrats, following a second round of voting. Merz secured 325 votes 'for', well above the minimum of 316 required.

German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier proceeded with the official appointment of the 17 ministers in Chancellor Friedrich Merz's new government on today evening, elected on a second attempt in the Bundestag (parliament), reports AFP.
