Parliamentary factions present priorities: PAS, PSRM, PCRM, Alternative and Home Democracy Party officially establish factions
The 12th Legislature of the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova has started activity, with deputies officially forming their parliamentary factions and presenting legislative priorities for the next four years.
PAS: Moldova's Membership in the European Union
The Action and Solidarity Party (PAS) faction, with 55 deputies, has announced its formation. Doina Gherman will be faction's president, with Lilian Carp and Ion Groza as vice-presidents.
In her plenary speech, Gherman thanked the citizens for the support:
“We are deeply grateful for the trust given by the citizens through their freely expressed vote at the elections on September 28, 2025. Moldova's accession to the European Union is the nationwide project intended to ensure peace, prosperity, and the consolidation of democracy. We are committed to acting responsibly and calmly to achieve this national objective. We understand that the path towards the European Union involves deep and sometimes challenging reforms, but it is the only path that guarantees a secure and prosperous future for Moldova. Every decision we make in this legislature must bring the country closer to the European Union. Dear colleagues and citizens, on behalf of the Action and Solidarity Party faction, I assure you of our unity, determination, and will to make Moldova ready to become a member state of the European Union,” Gherman opined.
PSRM: Defending the Rule of Law
PSRM leader Igor Dodon announced the formation of the faction consisting of 17 deputies. Dodon will lead the faction, with Zinaida Greceanîi as vice-president and Ala Daravonaia as secretary.
Igor Dodon emphasized:
“Parliament will demonstrate courage and manage to defend the rule of law. Moldovans have placed their hope in us to defend the country and the Constitution. We, the opposition deputies, will need character and courage because things have degenerated severely. Democracy must be freed from captivity, and state institutions must be brought back to serve the people.”
PCRM: Priority for a Better Future
MP Diana Caraman announced the formation of the Communist Party of the Republic of Moldova (PCRM) faction, consisting of eight deputies. Diana Caraman will be faction's president, with Valeriu Munduc as vice-president and Andrei Godoroja as secretary.
“The concern for a better future will be the main focus of the Communist Party faction in Parliament. The Communist Party believes that the elections were neither free nor democratic,” Caraman said.
Alternative: Genuine Opposition and Fight Against Corruption
Ion Ceban announced the formation of the Alternative Faction, consisting of eight deputies. Gaik Vartanean will be faction's president, with Olga Ursu as vice-president and Liliana Iaconi as secretary.
“The Alternative Faction will be the voice of the people here in the Parliament of Moldova and will work solely in the interest of the citizens and the state. The Alternative Faction represents a genuine opposition. We will advocate for the depoliticization of state institutions and fight against corruption,” Ceban stated.
Deputy Vasile Tarlev, elected on the Patriotic Bloc's list, announced that he will not affiliate with any faction and will continue his activity as a deputy of Moldova's Future party.
“I will not fight against anyone; I will fight for the country and the traditions of the Moldovans,” Tarlev said.
Democracy at Home Party Faction
The faction, consisting of six deputies, will be led by Vasile Costiuc, with Sergiu Stefanco as vice-president and Ana Țurcanu as secretary. Vasile Costiuc emphasized:
“When society votes, it ties some expectations. I would like to see more cooperation in this legislature. We are a relatively young party but have demonstrated enviable consistency. You will have a truly pro-European opposition.”
Our Party Faction
Renato Usatîi announced the formation of Our Party faction, consisting of six deputies. Usatîi will lead the faction, with Elena Grițco as vice-president and Alexandru Berlinschi as secretary. Usatîi declared:
“I will not give a speech; I hope at the Bureau meetings, we will talk about laws and unite the society. I would like to have a parliament where initiatives from both the government and the opposition are supported. Our Party will support any fundamental initiative for the state of Moldova.”
The Parliament has completed the first stage of internal organization. Four parties: Patriotic Bloc, Our Party, Alternative, and Democracy at Home Party have said they will be in opposition. The next steps are to elect the president of Parliament, the vice-presidents, and the formation of the standing bureau, as well as the establishment of standing committees.
