Moldova's Foreign Affairs Ministry: Moldovan citizens dead in accident in Hungary to be repatriated
Moldovan citizens who died in the road accident in Hungary will be repatriated. Two people who survived the accident hospitalized.
According to the Foreign Affairs Ministry (MAE), the minibus driver is in serious condition with multiple fractures, while the other injured passenger is in stable condition and is receiving medical care. The MAE says that the Embassy of Moldova in Hungary is keeping permanent contact with local authorities and the relevant medical institutions, providing consular assistance for organizing the procedures of repatriating the deceased.
Six out of the nine people in the minibus involved in the accident in Hungary were citizens of Moldova, some of whom also hold Romanian citizenship, while the other three passengers were Romanian citizens.
A minibus registered in Moldova on June 12 morning was involved in a collision that resulted in eight deaths on the M1 highway, nearby the city of Győr, Hungary.
At around 4:30 a.m., a truck crashed into a work vehicle at kilometer 114 of the M1 motorway, near Győr. Following the impact, the vehicle caught fire and the driver died on the spot.
Shortly afterward, at around 5:10 a.m., at kilometer 113 of the motorway, a minibus hit a stationary truck that had stopped due to traffic restrictions caused by the first accident. Nine people in the minibus, of whom seven died at the scene.
